Hand Etched Custom Monuments Our artist Heather Johnson provides artistic custom etched monuments, and offers a different approach to customizing a monument for clients. All of her etchings starts with an idea for the design then it's translated to a drawing and from that is hand etched into the stone with diamond tipped bits, hand etching provides a artistic look to the monument, unlike laser etching which can look plain and flat. Etching designs must be on black, deep reds , mahogany or dark gray granite material. Other color stones are very difficult to etch on. They can be mono color (different shades of whites and grays on the background color of the stone) or full color (like a painting). Standard Etching Color Etching Most custom etchings start with photo's, depending on what you want or have in mind. You may want to personalize your monument, make it one of a kind. Or choose from a standard scene. Heather can combine two or more photos to create a scene of your old home place, or favorite camping spot, favorite vacation picture. She can use anything to create a design just for you, photos, pictures from a magazine or brochure. The possibilities are endless, Portraits of the whole family, wedding photo's, favorite hobbies. Anything you may want, and if your having trouble thinking of something, maybe she could just talk with you for a while about your lost loved one and what they were like and help you come up with a special design.
